Why use a tablet on a forklift truck? | Tablet vs Computer
Using a tablet on a Forklift Truck increases the overall productivity in a warehouse. For the individual operating the forklift, using a digital solution is essential for delivering, loading and moving a variety of goods. Using a device ensures the correct management of a warehouse.
MobileWorxs Solutions
MobileWorxs experts discuss with customers their business objectives and learn how we can assist to implement a thoughtful and impactful solution. To help our customers we have an educated insight about methods and practices within different industries. When it comes to using a forklift we recognise that it’s different to mounting in comparison to any other vehicle. The operator would have the device positioned directly in front, with the barcode scanner on the side. The device will likely be used as a complete warehouse management solution, therefore it’s important for the device to be easily assessable for the forklift operator.
MobileWorxs rugged tablet computers can all be mounted onto a forklift. Using a variety of RAM mounting solutions, MobileWorxs can provide a bespoke dock/ cradle that is built specifically for your tablet. Whereas, the other option is a universal mounting solution. This will not be as secure and will need to be adjusted accordingly. Potentially, this could cause damage to your tablet if an accident were to occur when the tablet falls from its mounted position. Unlike a bespoke dock, a universal mounting solution may also need a range of integrated accessories because the cradle is not made for the device.
Another advantage of a bespoke dock is the portability. Allowing the forklift operator to leave the truck with the tablet is practical and convenient. This is because the device may be needed at some points for picking and packing elsewhere in the warehouse, without requiring the forklift. This reduces limitations and increases flexibility.
There are multiple ways to power your tablet. We recommend and supply a wiring loom which would need to be plugged in by a qualified electrician, sourced by the customer. Other powering options include the use of a cigarette lighter adaptor (CLA) or a hot-swappable battery.
To mount the tablet we have a variety of ways depending on individual preference. This includes step mount, front mount and top mount. As well as our RAM mounts, we have access to thousands of parts. RAM also boast a lifetime warranty, and if anything breaks we’ll get you a replacement.
Tablet vs Computer
But why use a tablet in your forklift, rather than a fixed computer? Apart from the portable benefit, there are many tablet features that surpass a mounted computer. You have the opportunity for a larger screen at 12 inches compared to computers which are a maximum of 8 inches. Using a tablet warrants the use of a camera on both sides of the tablet. This is useful when photographing for proof of delivery (POD). Using a tablet provides you with a multitude of functions that in many instances would require a couple of different devices. Whereas typically computers don’t have cameras. Another drawback of computers is that it has to be plugged in the entire time it’s in use. Compared to a tablet that can be used for many hours before needing power. Once more the portability of the tablet means you can remove the tablet from the forklift and keep it in a safe, secure area.
