Urovo’s DT50 rugged handheld offers great performance at a competitive price. Featuring a large 5.7” display, modern Android OS options and IP67 sealing to name a few, this device ready for all challenges. There is however a few different variants available that can sometimes make choosing the right device a slightly confusing. In this blog we will cover these differences in detail and hopefully help you to understand which is best for each use case.
Original DT50

Launching back in late 2018 the original DT50 device was the base for all future variants. The device was Urovo’s flagship model at the time and shipped with Android 9 OS and benefited from GMS certification to allow fast setup and deployment. The core features were:
- 7” HD Bezel-less display
- Qualcomm 2.2GHz Octa-core CPU with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage
- Rugged design with 1.5m drop rating + various vibration and tumble tests
- IP67 sealing against water and dust
- 4300mAh battery with fast charging technology
- WiFi, Bluetooth and 4G/LTE wireless communications + GPS
- 2D barcode scanner option
- RFID/NFC options
On top of this the DT50 offered a strong range of accessories from the beginning, these included office/vehicle charging dock, scan trigger and various carrying straps.
Use case was primarily aimed at applications that would utilise a larger screen as well as the performance the device offered. A few examples might be:
- Logistics/warehousing – Rugged design combined with 2D barcode scanner or RFID options make it great for order picking and processing.
- Field based workers – Great battery life, 4G/LTE communications and vehicle dock accessory makes it ideal for workers who are on the move.
- Retail – DT50’s fast performance has no problem running intense applications that can be clearly seen on the large HD display.
DT50Q

After the success of DT50, there was demand for a more affordable, lower end variant. Urovo’s answer was the DT50Q which launched in 2019. The physical design is identical to the flagship DT50 with the main changes being internal only. Now featuring a lower end Qualcomm Octa-core 1.8GHz CPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On top of this the device still featured Android 9 however, the device was also Android Enterprise (AER) certified to further aid rapid deployment.
DT50 X and S Variants

In 2022 Urovo began a refresh of the DT50 range. As with DT50Q, the main changes are to the internal specification only. DT50X features the same physical design as the original in order to maintain compatibility for existing accessories with the processor being upgraded to a new generation Mediatek Octa-core CPU running at 2GHz. RAM and internal storage stay at 4GB/64GB as standard. The other change was that this device launched with an updated Android 11 operating system. DT50X can be viewed as the lower end device of this refresh, similar to how DT50Q was positioned against the original DT50
DT50S
Sharing the DT50X launch in 2022, the DT50S is Urovo’s replacement flagship option. Equipped with a Qualcomm Octa Core CPU running at 2.45GHz, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage as standard, this device is offers the highest performance of any DT50 variant. As with DT50X, Android 11 comes as standard with guaranteed support up to version 13. DT50S is also Android Enterprise (AER) certified for enhanced provisioning and MDM support. DT50S design is physically the same as DT50X shown above.
DT50 5G

Introducing the first DT50 with 5G connectivity, launched in early 2023 the DT50 5G shares similar base spec to DT50X with the added benefit of high speed 5G cellular. The majority of the design is the same as existing DT50 models however, the rear top portion is enlarged in order to house the 5G modem. The result is any accessory that utilises the lower half of the device will be cross compatible (dock/cradle.etc), while accessories such as protective cases and hand straps will be DT50 5G device specific.
Highlight features include:
- Mediatek Octa-Core 2.2GHz CPU
- Android 12 with GMS
- Supports 3G/4G/5G WWAN
- 5G slicing technology for app/data prioritisation
- Other specification is similar to DT50X
DT50 5G is aimed at environments where WiFi is not feasible. This could include warehouse/stores, shipping port, rail depot, airport. In these instances 5G will be a more reliable and a lower cost option than WiFi.
DT50H

Medical grade DT50 device with performance comparable to DT50S.
Infrared body temperature measurement
Equipped with a medical-grade thermal infrared temperature measurement module, real-time accurate body temperature output; temperature compensation algorithm, accurate temperature measurement, and measurement error of merely ±0.3°C.
Antibacterial & sterilizable materials
The enclosure is made of antibacterial materials that meet the JISZ2801 standard, which means it withstands the conventional disinfection of common disinfectants and is resistant to alcohol wipes. By wiping the device, you can effectively prevent the spreading of bacterial infections.
DT50U

DT50U is a use case specific device which features a built in long range RFID reader/sled. The DT50U’s internal 5dBi high-sensitivity RFID antenna can cover a more comprehensive scanning range, enabling a quick reading of a large number of RFID labels within 20m. We are expecting to see a DT50S (performance) equivalent with 5G launch later on in 2023 although this may not use the DT50 name.
